Integrating with Home Assistant via Smartthings

Prerequisites
  1. Home Assistant is already installed and configured
  2. Samsung SmartThings is already installed and signed in with a Samsung account.
  3. Nexx Garage Door Device is installed, connected to Garage opener and works through the Nexx App.
Configuration
  1. Firstly add the Nexx device to Smartthings, as detailed in this article http://doc-repo.simpaltek.com/SamsungSmartThings.CompatibleWith/
    1. Confirm you can open the Garage with SmartThings.
  2. Then, if not already, configure Home Assistant to be enrolled in the Home Assistant Cloud https://www.nabucasa.com/config/
    1. This allows integrations such as SmartThings, Google Home and Alexa to security push as pull instructions from Home Assistant
    2. It also allows secure remote control of your Home Assistant System.
    3. There is a 30 day trial then a $6.50 USD per month subscriptions. Well worth it for anyone using Home Assistant.
    4. Once done, wait for Home Assistants “Cloud Connection Status” to be Connected.
    5. Then restart Home Assistant.
  3. Then, add the SmartThings Integration to Home Assistant. https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/smartthings/
    1. Follow Prerequisites in the article.
    2. Once done, restart Home Assistant.
  4. Home Assistant will detect all your SmartThings devices.
    1. The Nexx Garage Door Opener is detected as a “Cover” in my case the Entity ID was call “cover.garage”.
    2. From the Smartthings Integration
                                                         i.      Click on devices,
                                                       ii.      Click on Garage “or whatever you named the device in SmartThings”,
                                                     iii.      Under Controls, click on “Add to Lovelace” (your or the dashboard system you are using)
                                                      iv.      Choose your dashboard view
                                                       v.      Click Add To Lovelace UI.
                                                      vi.      Done.
